Madeleine L’Engle: coming to terms with a literary mother

It’s been a busy month for me in terms of manuscript work and teaching, and so I let nearly three weeks slip by without updating either my blog or my Facebook Author page. Mea culpa! I hope that today’s blog post on my lifelong “relationship” to literary idol Madeleine L’Engle makes up for my silence.

I feel that I need to warn anyone who is a L’Engle fan that my post is not a pure paean of praise. I’ve been re-reading some of her books this summer, and I was horrified by my reaction: they weren’t the glowing masterpieces of perfection that I remembered from my childhood. I’ve bounced back from that negative response, at least somewhat, in a way that I think has taught me something valuable about writing. Read the post and see if you agree.
